Reds

Bodegas Fontana Mesta
Ucles, Spain
- It seems there is no end to the tasty red wines coming out of Spain. This region is new to us, located in the center of the country near the city of Toledo, the lush rolling hills here and warm temperatures allow excellent ripeness and concentration without making the wines too big. This shows luscious cherry and raspberry fruit in a medium bodied, supple style that’s easy going and tasty.

Cellar #8 Pinot Noir
California
- Pinot Noir is the most popular varietal in our store. Most likely because it’s generous, smooth and matches lots of foods really well. This is a great find--a well-made Pinot Noir that you can drink every day. Smooth and round with nice flavors of red and black cherry with little hints of spice. You can serve this with just about anything and don’t be afraid to put a little chill on this for a hot day.

Baronnie de Montgaillard
Cotes de Ceressou, France
- We had to look-up the location of this little region as we hadn’t heard of it before--it’s located in the heart of Languedoc in southern France. This combines the local grapes of Syrah and Grenache with Merlot to make a killer little red that’s filled with black fruit which is soft and juicy. The Merlot added here really gives this a plumpness of texture without making it heavy. Try this with some grilled lamb shops with garlic and rosemary.

Primaterra Syrah
Sicily, Italy
- Syrah is a grape that does well in all types of climates so it’s no surprise to see it in Sicily--Italy’s new frontier for wine. The warm climate, tempered by the sea, gives this ripe, plum and black raspberry flavors along with subtle notes of licorice and pepper spice. This is also made in a style that makes it juicy and fresh while still showing all it’s fruit. Try this with Moroccan spiced chicken.

Sierra Salina Mo
Alicante, Spain
- We move now to southern Spain where they have a good number of old vine Monastrell vines that have been reclaimed just within the past twenty years after being neglected for decades. This area is one of the few that focuses on bottling this delicious grape all by itself. Bold, powerful, concentrated but still balanced and complex--these are simply tasty wines. Try it with classic grilled burger.

Saladini Pilastri Rosso Piceno
Marche, Italy
- This is a cool part of Italy--far from the crowds of Tuscany or the bustle of the big cities. Located on the east coast this region of huge rolling hills makes wines using the local Montepulciano grape, here blended with equal part Sangiovese. This is a classic Italian wine--aromatic, medium bodied, fresh and lively with flavors of dried cherries, earth and spice. And like many traditional Italian wines, drink this with foods such as savory pasta dishes or other hearty fare. The acid in this wine also makes it a great compliment to anything with tomatoes.

Whites

Razor’s Edge Chardonnay
Australia
- Here’s a perfect summer styled chardonnay that works great for warmer weather. The wine is aged mostly in stainless steel tanks to keep its freshness and vibrancy. It’s filled with baked red apple and pear fruit with a little citrus poking through at the end to give it a little zip. Serve well chilled with a summer salad.

Wimmer Czerny Gruner Veltliner
Austria
- Though not well-known in America, the whites of Austria are among the best anywhere. The signature grape here is Gruner Veltliner and this is a wonderful example. Medium bodied with ripe flavors of quince, pears, peach and a little nutty character as well. There is also a strong mineral note to the wine and good acidity to keep it all balanced and refreshing. What’s cool here is that the flavors are all very concentrated but the wine isn’t heavy or awkward.

Villa Wolf Rose
Pfalz, Germany
- This property is owned by one of Germany’s top producers, Ernie Loosen who bought it solely to make dry wines. The Pfalz is also Germany’s premier Pinot Noir region and thus comes the Pinot Noir rose. This shows off the ripe, soft strawberry inflected fruit of the Pinot in a style that has abundant fruit and is a touch more plush in texture than most rose making it easy to drink all by itself. But don’t forget, these are some of the most food-friendly wines around.

Parducci Sustainable White
Mendocino County, California
- Parducci is doing some very progressive work with sustainable and organic farming and has been one of the leaders in this area in California viticulture. On top of that, they make some yummy wines and we think this one will be a big hit. A multi-grape filed blend that shows flavors of ripe pears, melon and citrus fruits with a slight creaminess to the texture but with Nice balance and lots of flavor. Try with grilled shrimp over cucumber salsa.

Aveleda Vinho Verde
Portugal
- We’re always surprised just how much Vinho Verde we sell every summer and how much people love it. So here you go--and a new one at that. This version has less bubble in it and is slightly drier but still offers up that quintessential Vinho Verde refreshment and fruit bowl flavors everybody loves.

Chateau Vrai Caillou
Entre Deux Mers, France
- This little region of Bordeaux means ‘land between the seas’ if my French serves me--and it is a small, rocky spit of land in the ancient flood plain of the sea that happens to be ideally suited to grow sauvignon blanc. This is a classically styled white Bordeaux showing bright citrus fruits and lots of mouthwatering vibrancy.
